International flights come and go from Entebbe International Airport (Booking code EBB). Kampala, the capital city of Uganda, is 40 Kms away from Entebbe, and a taxi ride into the city currently costs between $25 and $30.

VISAS
Most visitors to the country need a visa.  By far the easiest way to get one is on arrival at Entebbe International Airport (40 km from Kampala) or at the land or lake border crossing points.  The current cost for a single-entry tourist visa, valid for three months, is US$ 50.  You must have a passport that is valid for at least 6 months at the time of entry into Uganda.

CURRENCY
The currency of Uganda is the Uganda Shilling (UGX). There are no restrictions on bringing foreign currency into Uganda, and most major currencies can be traded at forex bureaux around the country. To obtain competitive rates of exchange however, it is best to trade USD, EUR or GBP. Current rates of exchange are 1 USD = 1,680 UGX, 1 EUR = 2,440 UGX, 1 GBP = 3,500 UGX.

CREDIT CARDS
Only travel agencies and the top international hotels accept credit cards (Visa and Mastercard preferred), with cash payment preferred for almost all services and goods.  The international banks are well represented and money can be withdrawn from their cash machines using credit/debit cards.  Foreign exchange dealers can be found throughout the city and give better rates than the commercial banks.  A note of caution: pre-2000 US$ 100 notes are not accepted anywhere, including by the Immigration Service; and low rates of exchange are given for low denomination notes.
